Laughter is great medicine they say, so here’s the thing to consider … if you decide to take life less seriously, and learn to have a good laugh at yourself, you will never cease to be amused! It’s so true … at least in my case! Pretty much every day, I can find some silliness, or something I say or do that is humorous in nature!
Take today for example, I’ve already had a few laughs on myself, because of my own antics! First off, I decided to forgo the sandwich I lusted after for lunch, in order to keep the promise I made {to myself and others} to eat a boatload of greens at each meal for 21 daysl! So what’s funny about that? Read on ….
Everyone knows I’m all about eating clean and green living – I live, eat, breathe and promote it {99.5% the time} so healthy stuff is part of my daily life {going on 34 years! I love smoothies, but this green brew, stagnating {and almost fermenting} in front of me right now, isn’t the usual tasty yumminess I’ve whipped up in the past! What the ….? What happened to it?
Oh I daresay it’s healthy for me but the slick green slime appearance resembles pond scum and I’m half-expecting a green frog-like creature to emerge! After drinking half of it …eeeew … I can now confirm without a shadow of a doubt that it does indeed taste like pulverized earthy, moldy moss with river water and frog parts!
Down the hatch Anthea! You’re a wimp and a phony if you don’t finish to the last drop! Done! Ugh! My stomach is churning and growling and I feel a one-second explosive cleanse is about to hit me … and the porcelain throne! Oh crap!
Sorry about that! I’m back!! I’m laughing out loud at the things I do and say. Next time, I’m going back to my old faithful green smoothie recipe that tastes wonderfully delicious. Having said that I’m still grateful for the experience …. the opportunity to laugh …especially at myself … is always appreciated and welcomed. Lol.
Boom! That hearty belly laugh just saved my sanity AND extended my life a few more minutes! Oh really? Hey, don’t laugh {oh yes – go ahead ..indulge!} every minute you can extend your life is valuable and counts. It all adds up!
Yes!! Do you realize laughter is that powerful? Studies show it really is …. laughter is good medicine and helps on both counts! In fact laughter positively effects health three ways … physical, mental and emotional. According to Robert Frost, “If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane!” I think that’s very true. It’s good to laugh, no wait … it’s imperative to laugh. AND another MUST is to simply lighten up and laugh at yourself often … before others do!
It’s a double gift! Sharing humorous experiences, causing you to laugh at yourself, forwards the gift of laughter to others. Now they can enjoy laughter with you … rather than at you 🙂
Want another laugh on me? We have a garbage can in the kitchen with a lid that opens in response to motion. Chuck loves it – I dislike it intensely! So much easier and quicker for me to lob the trash into an open can, than stand in front of the motion detector wafting things at it like a nut-job! So frustrating! But I have endured it and put up with it. Anything for my honey!! It would have been gone long ago if not for him.
Well earlier today I was busy and somewhat preoccupied {at least that’s my excuse!} as I gathered dirty clothes to wash. Armed with a bundle of smelly gym clothes I positioned myself squarely in front of the clothes hamper in the bedroom awaiting the lid to flop open! Seriously Anthea?
Yes seriously. Clearly I woke up after a few seconds and manually lifted the lid. Not before I almost died laughing at the stupidity of it all. Conditioning at its very best, insanity at worst. Brain overload probably! Oh well! Such is life.
Stay calm and laugh on …
So now it’s your turn. What humorous things have you done or said to crack you up?
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25
I am a serious klutz so I am always giving myself ways to laugh at myself:)
