Sometimes it pays to listen to your gut. Your body really does have a built-in sensor that communicates valuable messages to your instincts … LISTEN and HEED! I am exceedingly healthy and rarely get sick … if I do … I’m over it FAST. I am in tune with my body.
So two weeks ago I was on top of the world … 100% healthy and going flat out … next thing I knew I had crashed and burned! My instinct and experience tells me it all started with a seasonal allergy that turned into a sinus infection. Having experienced one or two episodes in the past – I know a sinus infection when it arrives. No big deal, right? You go to the doctor – they give you a Z Pack and voila – infection gone. This is where it gets interesting and the downward spiral began for me!
My doctor decided that I had the “viral bug” that’s going around and blew off my insistence that it was a sinus infection. Said it would have to run its course for 7-10 days and an antibiotic wouldn’t help. I returned home to pamper myself with lots of fluids, supplements and rest.
It didn’t get better and turned into 103’ temperatures, night sweats and chest involvement. I returned to the doctor … x-ray … blood tests … and confirmation of a bacterial infection … prescription for a powerful quinolone antibiotic to deal with the infection.
Enter side effects from the drug! Abdominal pain, stomach irritation, chest tightness, anxiety, decreased blood pressure, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, insomnia, joint and muscle pain, nausea, nervousness, rapid heartbeat, rash, sweating. Quite a list! Not that I had all those symptoms, but experienced enough of them to be miserable.
Here I am two weeks later on the upswing and pumping down the detoxification nutrients and fluids to counteract the devastation to my cells from the 10 day round of antibiotics. I have to wonder … would treating the sinus infection on the first visit have saved me from the extended misery?
I’ll never know for sure, but my heart of hearts tells me it would have. Sometimes YOU know best what is going on in your body. Listen to your gut instincts. Pay attention to the warning signs … we are each responsible for our own good health!
