How Great Thou Art

how great thou artWe awakened to heavy rain and thunder in Austin, TX this morning!  What a beautiful sight and breath-taking sound!  We sure need the rain to break the drought and fill the lakes. And I crave it to cleanse my soul! SO refreshing – so peaceful – a wonderful way to start our Sunday ….

The thunder didn’t last long, but long enough to bring to mind the amazing old hymn that I love so much but rarely seem to hear any more at church. I miss it – I miss how it makes my soul sing! I miss the words and I miss the beautiful music, so I sing it to myself!. So many of the older hymns seem to have been overshadowed by the more contemporary worship songs {don’t misunderstand, I love them too!}

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

My thoughts drifted to the title – How Great Thou Art. Yes indeed we have an awesome GOD. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Luke 12:7 tells usIndeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Yes He is a great and wondrous God. He loves us beyond measure and unconditionally.

I want to share a recent personal experience with you to glorify my Father in Heaven! On the day of my hip surgery – August 20th, I completely turned my business over to God. HE led us to Shaklee all those years ago and it is HE who has blessed our business for more than 30 years.  HIS grace and HIS love. HIS faithfulness.

Of course I’ve tried to take it way from HIM so many times and control the outcome and direction myself. I am only human and when I’m in the throws of working my business day to day, I sometimes forget that I would have no business if it weren’t a gift from Him. That each and every customer and business partner has come from HIM. Of course HE expects me to put feet to my faith and work – to be a servant to many and follow His guidance. I try my best to do that and to BE that obedient one. More often than not I fail miserably.  Just when I give it all to God, I take it back and try to go it alone. UGH! Do I never learn?

This time I actually did turn it over! I let go and let God! I really DID it – completely. I knew I would be out of commission from the surgery for at least 6 weeks, so I gave my business back to God. “Here Lord, it’s yours. I’m stepping back for a few weeks. I trust you – I have faith in you to run my business as you so desire. You got this God!  I’ll be back as I am able, but meantime, it’s YOURS Lord. You’ve always owned it really, but this time it’s ALL yours. I’m giving it to you completely!”

And I DID! I handed over ownership and concentrated on recuperating. Here’s the awesomeness of our God.  When we are weak, He is strong! He took care of my business infinitely better than I! Although I did nothing, the month of October was the BEST in many months. Thank you God for reminding me that it is YOU who are control – not me.  I am merely your instrument.

To you goes the glory O God!

 When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
